Unraveling Environmental Histories and Building Regenerative Futures

I study the Earth's past through stratigraphy to understand how environmental changes, including extreme events, have shaped its surface over varying timescales—from days to thousands of years. By examining layers of rock and sediment, I uncover the history of these changes and infer the forces behind them.

In the present and future, I focus on permaculture to cultivate food and resources in ways that support both soil health and the well-being of consumers. This approach emphasizes collaborating with nature rather than working against it, fostering coupled environmental-social systems that are sustainable, resilient, and low-maintenance with stacked functions.

I also explore the interplay between humans and their environment through the evolution of language. This line of study reveals how our linguistic development mirrors our changing relationship with the natural world.

I am currently a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Memphis. I am open for Permaculture consulting as well, and I am certified Permaculturist with Advanced Social Systems Design through the Permaculture Women's Guild.
